Angry and upset, I rushed out her chair to check out where I was able to voice my complaints to the general manager. The funny thing is I watched as she cut the hair for the girl before me and she too has not enough hair on the floor for what would even be considered a "trim". Immediately frustrated when she said I was done, I pointed out she had not done anything to my hair and it looks the exact same as when I walked in. There wasn't even a single strand or pile of my hair on the floor to clean up after she was "done". Sunny couldn't understand what I was asking for since my CONSULT prior to my cut, asked me again many times when I sat in her chair, then began to "cut" my hair. I came in with shoulder length hair and some long layers, and while I was not looking for anything wild, new, or crazy I simply explained that I wanted to clean up my look- even out my hair and the individual layers. I'm aware she's only a "junior" stylist, but figured that anyone who holds a position in such a high end salon such as this would have to undergo extensive training or have outstanding quality of work. While I was happy with my color from Carlina, my cut with Sunny was not even close to worth my time or the "mere" $100 for a cut. I've been going to Mario Diab in Soho for YEARS, but decided to take a shot elsewhere for some change. It is great to be part of a transformation in clients externally and internally.I was highly looking forward to my first time at this salon after reading such great reviews and especially all the media. Most enjoyable part of my job is styling hair. Hardest part of the job is mentioning a balance with the new floor management guidelines and trying to best assist the head stylist. My co-workers are fun and helpful but often overwhelmed. Rules and regulations are constantly changing because management is still trying to figure out a regiment that complies with NYS guidelines. The salon is going under changes and trying to comply with New York state laws and requirements in regards to their employees. Salon is undergoing different management meaning there has been new management since I started and new rules set for the salon.

Everything else was literally the worst salon experience I've ever had, included witnessing the dated color techniques of the colorists. The floor managers were nice, and that was the only decent part. No, your salon working environment is terrible, and it's not setup to help new assistants learn or thrive. They have a mentality that "if you can make it there, you can make it anywhere". Once I got there, I was appalled at the lack of skill from the colorists, the lack of education, and the way the assistants were being used in the hopes of one day working in the salon. I was excited to try Rita Hazan and "learn from the best". Rita's current assistant has been with her for 6 years! Hello, people, you are being taken advantage of. At Rita Hazan, their assistants are treated like the housekeepers to the head colorists, and kept in "training" for minimum 5 years. A salon that is truly supportive of their team will teach their assistants while on the job, and promote them on the floor once they are ready. Modern salon assistants are not glorified housekeepers and should not be kept in training for more than three years.
